Trip #1. La Jolla Kayak Tour
Our fully guided kayak tour takes you through the Ecological Reserve and along the La Jolla Sea Caves—some of San Diego’s most famous attractions. The La Jolla Ecological Reserve and Underwater Park is a marine protected area that’s a famous destination for snorkelers, divers, and kayakers to respectfully explore. The Reserve is home to our friends—leopard sharks, Garibaldi (California’s state marine fish!), lush kelp beds, sea lions, and even the occasional pod of dolphins!

Trip # 2. Rady Shell at Jacobs Park Site Visit
We will visit the beautifully redesigned Rady Shell area within the Embarcadero Marina Park South to walk the grounds and view the MWS Linear engineered biofiltration systems installed onsite. Attendees will be given background on meeting the stormwater quality criteria in San Diego, the challenges of doing so on constrained urban sites, and how the MWS Linear is ideally suited for these challenging urban applications. Attendees will also receive insight on the key features and functionality of the MWS in addition to being able to view the installations onsite firsthand and ask questions about the technology and installations. The walk from the hotel is about 15 minutes.

Trip # 3. Tijuana River Valley Tour:  Challenges and Impacts of Transboundary Pollution
Participants will learn about the binational efforts of federal, state, and local governments, and non-governmental organizations to address the sources, conveyance, and treatment of transboundary pollution through the Tijuana River Valley Recovery Strategy, USMCA funding, and Treaty Minutes 320 and 328. The tour will start at the TRNERR Visitor Center for an overview of the unique habitats, ecosystems, and cultural history of the Tijuana River Watershed and ongoing climate change adaptation and estuary restoration projects. The tour will proceed through the Tijuana River Valley approaching the U.S.-Mexico International Border at several locations including the flood control channel of the Tijuana River, Smuggler’s Gulch and Goat Canyon Collectors, U.S International Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the Pacific Ocean. If weather and road conditions permit, the tour will conclude with a visit to Friendship Park in Border Field State Park.
