Stephen Jones was first introduced to the segmental pavers in 1982 by a contractor in Ft. Worth, TX.  After helping the contractor on a paving project, Steve returned home to Minnesota to try to start a paving stone manufacturing plant.  For  2 years he was unable to convince local bankers and concrete companies of the future of interlocking concrete pavements.

In 1985, still convinced of the future of this new industry, Steve formed PAVE TECH, INC. a residential paver contracting company as a way to stay involved in this exciting new industry.  Learning his skills and craft on sidewalks and patios and driveways.  Steve received tremendous help from experienced people in the industry.

In 1986 Steve’s thoughts turned to the design of a product specific for a difficult problem with the paver installations. Initial drawings and concept were made on a napkin late in 1986. Spring of 1987 had Steve with his first samples of what was originally called “Pave Tech Edging.”  That first introductory year PAVE TECH sold about 50,000 ft. of edging.  After the experiences, trials and tribulations of that first year, PAVE TECH relocated its manufacturing to a Chicago based plastics company.  It was also the time of many changes to the size and shape of what is now known as “PAVE EDGE.  1988 was the year that “PAVE EDGE Flexible” a 2 component system became available to make radius work easier.  That 2nd year also saw sales increase to more than 500,000 lineal ft.  PAVE EDGE is recognized as the best performing product of its kind by the segmental paving industry.

Steve’s passion for knowledge and sharing led him to continue his involvement in developing industry installation specifications and proper vocational training materials, included writing and publishing the industry’s first and to date only comprehensive vocational training manual in 2003.  Over 100,000 copies have been sold in both English and Spanish.

Today Stephen Jones and PAVE TECH stand for quality and service. Steve is an industry resource with active involvement in the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute and the Brick Industry Association.  Steve also served as a founding Director of the original Board of Directors for the ICPI and continues as an active member. Steve is also a founder of the original CPI Concrete Paver Institute which evolved into todays ICPI Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute.  As an original founder, Steve has served on the board of directors for most of the last 25 years.  He has chaired the Construction, Expo and Hardscape North America committees. PAVE TECH’s many contributions to the paver industry include the first national industry publication the ”PAVE TECH EDGE” and it’s on site demonstrations, and seminars all across North America, and comprehensive skills training videos.  Even though PAVE TECH stopped contracting work in 1993 they stay involved in contractor training and education for contractors.  PAVE TECH continues to provide industry innovations available at   www.pavetech.com

The addition of the German manufactured PROBST Line of Hardscape installation tools and handling equipment gives PAVE TECH the finest products in their category.   This product line is the perfect fit for both companies because the philosophy of “NO COMPROMISE” is the Motto at both PROBST and PAVE TECH.

Steve Jones and PAVE TECH continue to improve their existing products and search and develop new ones.
