Presentation description
Chloride is an invisible pollutant.  We all use it directly or indirectly.  Getting the word out to the public and educating salt users is an important part of reducing the impacts of chloride on our waters. Minnesota has new chloride requirements in its MS4 permit.  MS4s and various organizations in Minnesota have been working to educate the public on chloride and chloride reduction.  Some of the salt/chloride education and public involvement programs used in Minnesota will be discussed and shown, including short videos, music, public works open house, flyers, events and more.  Many of these can be adapted for use in your communities.

Lea Spencer, Watershed & Stormwater Training Manager, Center for Watershed Protection
Presentation description
Developing partnerships with local workforce development organizations provides an opportunity to reach an underserved population in your communities. When using a DEIJ lens to assess the success of your public involvement and education programs, consider not only how many you are reaching but the breadth of who you are reaching, and the impact. You will learn about the CWP’s Clean Water Certificate training program which is a workforce development program that remove barriers to access living wage jobs in underserved communities and provides the stormwater industry with a skilled and knowledgeable workforce.
