The Center for Watershed Protection (CWP) is a national 501(c) nonprofit organization that works with communities to provide clean water and healthy natural resources. For over 30 years, the organization has provided direct services and training to communities, conducted applied research, and developed a growing membership program.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual with a strong technical foundation, excellent communication skills, and 10 or more years of related experience for a Water Resources Engineer position. This position will include opportunities to work on a wide variety of CWP projects in a fast-paced environment that requires individuals that can work efficiently, produce high quality deliverables on-time and on-budget. This is a mostly remote position; however, the candidate should be located within driving distance to the CWP office (Fulton, MD) as occasional travel to the office is needed to facilitate communication and efficient work progress. Pennsylvania-based location would be desirable. Some example tasks include:
- Managing projects while having the technical skills to provide guidance and quality control to team members
- Interacting with clients, grant administrators, partners, and/or contractors on project status and developments
- Developing proposal scopes and budgets
- Providing quality control on both grant-funded and consulting projects
- Designing green stormwater infrastructure
- Completing stormwater and flood analysis
- Developing stormwater design guidance manuals
- Conducting site assessments for water quality improvements and stormwater retrofits
- Performing GIS mapping and analysis
- Writing plans and reports related to stormwater management
- Working with local governments in developing and implementing Stormwater Management Programs
- Conducting literature reviews and research on stormwater and watershed questions and writing
- Teaching your skills to others at conferences, presentations, and workshops
Qualifications
Bachelor’s in civil, water resources, or environmental engineering or related field. Strong writing and speaking skills essential, with demonstrated ability to translate complex engineering and science concepts into clear and understandable terms. Additional desirable skills and experience include:
- Knowledge of stormwater regulations and design standards (both urban and agricultural)
- Working with local or state governments
- Green and grey stormwater infrastructure designs and requirements
- Flood resiliency and mitigation strategy experience
- NPDES MS4 permitting and program development
- CAD (Autodesk Civil 3D) and GIS software (ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online) and ability to innovate and problem solve new GIS solutions
- Engineering software, such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and/or PC-SWMM
- Leading meetings and presenting to a variety of different audiences, such as elected officials, boards, technical staff, and residents
- Strong organizational skills, including tracking and managing multiple tasks and priorities
- Project management
- Grant administration
- Proposal development
Professional Engineer licensure is required. This position is primarily virtual but requires field work and travel throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, and other parts of the country for projects as needed. Actual travel is expected to be less than 20% per year. Candidates must be qualified and authorized to work in the U.S.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $105,000, depending on education and experience. CWP offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:
