Are you looking to share your watershed work with a wider audience? The Center for Watershed Protection can help connect you to thousands of watershed and stormwater professionals through Lunch and Learns and blogs.
As some of you already know, the Center’s Lunch and Learn series is a benefit offered exclusively to our members as an opportunity to peek behind the curtain into the professional water world. These series are held during lunch from 12 pm to 1pm EST at our office in Ellicott City but we offer these presentations for viewing online through Adobe Connect. This is an informal way that we learn more from the community (researchers, nonprofits, and emerging technologies) to form relationships, brainstorm ways to work together and to share the work that we do with our guest speaker(s). This 30-45 minute presentation on watershed research, programs, products and more is followed by dialogue and questions for the remainder of the hour. Past presentations include “The “Other” Green Infrastructure” by Kris Olsson (Watershed Ecologist at Huron River Watershed Council), and “Permeable pavement performance in clay soils and what about denitrification?” by Ryan Winston (Assistant Professor at the Ohio State University). This would be the way to go if you are comfortable speaking about your topic and receiving questions from our staff and guests.
Guest blogs are a completely different tool but with the same goal of promoting your work to our audience. Guest posting is a win-win situation for everyone, you get to expand your online reach and share your expertise by getting your content in front of new readers, and we get the chance to run new content that shares different insights and ideas with our readership. Not to mention, it could expand your personal network. The more shares your content gets, the more shareworthy it’ll be in the eyes of your audience. And as a bonus, it can also boost your follower count. Previous guest blogs from last year include, “How Asbestos Finds its Way into Water Sources” by Charles MacGregor (https://www.cwp.org/asbestos-finds-way-water-sources/) and “Phosphorus Release in Stormwater Ponds” by Randy Neprash (https://www.cwp.org/phosphorus-release-stormwater-ponds/). This would be the tool you want if you want to stay behind the scenes but still get your ideas out to the watershed community.
We welcome everyone to share your knowledge with us and the rest of the watershed community. Contact Marlyn Argueta at mia@cwp.org about your interest in presenting at a Lunch and Learn or providing content for a guest blog.
